In response to one of my earlier postings on this blog, a reader who goes by the name of Connecticut Minuteman wrote the following....
It would be great if the issues that the Bulletin fails to report on could at least be talked about here. There is an urgent need for the citizens of this country to wake up and realize how our country and the American middle class are losing ground due to the last 30 years of politics. There is not only a war on the middle class, but, so much more happening that is not being covered by mainstream media, including the Bulletin.
Rather than just continue the thread, I thought, in this case, it would be worthwhile to put it as a new entry and simply invite discussion. Minuteman, what issues in particular would you like to see discussed here?

For starters I would like discussed the intended unification of our country with Canada and Mexico, scheduled to be in place by 2010. The American public has never been asked if they would like to be united with Canada and Mexico. This intended unification is called the Security and Prosperity Partnership. The info regarding this can be found at www.spp.gov. According to this site "the SPP recognizes that our three great nations are bound by shared belief in freedom, economic opportunity, and strong democratic institution." Since when is Mexico a democracy? If the economic opportunity in Mexico is so good then why do the illegal aliens cross the border to work here? Perhaps these people believe in a democracy, but, Mexico is not a democracy. According to longtime Mexico observer and writer John Ross "the fine are of election theft was perfected." With all the drug activity on our southern border it is obvious who controls Mexico, and it is not the people. According to the report entitled "Building a North American Community" the U.S. must be integrated with the socialism, corruption, poverty and population of Mexico. The "common perimeter" means wide-open borders with both Mexico and Canada. The Council on Foreign Relations, a group of elitsts, including Lieberman and Dodd is intending to slam this unification down our throats whether we want it or not. I have been aware of this atrocity to Americans for months now. The info is all out there but mainstream media has failed to inform the American public. For a list of these American traitors see www.mega.nu:8080/ampp/roundtab1e/cfra-elist.html.
Second topic I would like to discuss is what we never heard as far as the illegal alien protests that occurred. A very eye opening video can be found at www.immigrationwatchdog.com/?p=811
The intention of the Nation of Aztlan is not that these illegals assimulate into our culture, but, that they take back what they rightfully feel is theirs. Don't you think that the American people deserve to know the intentions of these people? This "Nation of Aztlan" refers to the American southwestern states of California, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, portions of Nevada, Utah, Colorado, which Chicano nationalists claim were stolen by the United States and must be reconquered (Reconquista) and reclaimed for Mexico. Again mainstream media has failed the American public. Nowhere did you see the pictures of the Mexican flag on top, with our flag below hung upside down.
Shall we discuss the situations on our southern borders that are not being reported on? Ever since Mexican President Vicente Fox declared war on drug cartels last year, border violence has escalated.
"There has been an over 100 percent increase in the last fiscal year in border violence" said Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff. And there are also the health issues that arise when these illegal aliens are allowed to come into our country without verification as to their health. The National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID) states that infectious diseases are a continuing danger to everyone in the United States. SARS, malaria, TB, and other bacterial pneumonias are now appearing in forms resistant to drug treatment. TB is a significant problem among foreign-born persons in the United States, with foreign-born persons accounting for 53 percent of the 14,874 U.S. cases in 2005. Of these, 26 percent of the cases were from Mexico. Right there is reason enough for me to have a secured border. Those comming to this country legally have to be screened for a reason.
Another interesting topic: the American Bar Association says President Bush is violating the U.S. Constitution. Since the founding of the republic until 2001 when George Bush became president, there were about 600 used. Since then, there have been 800 by President Bush. Neal Sonnett, the ABA task force chairman said "We have a very important principle at stake here. We have a government and a democracy that's been founded on separation of power and checks and balances. And the Supreme Court has told us that whenever there is a move to arrogate power from one branch to another, that that destroys liberty. Liberty is essential to protect this country. So we have a system here in which the use of these signing statements really tears at the very fabric of our democracy."
My list of issues that should be in front of the American people, but, that are not being covered by mainstream media is long. However, I do not have time to continue right now. No doubt you will again hear from me soon. Thanks for the opportunity
Minuteman...
I must admit that I am unaware of any plan to "unify" the United States, Mexico and Canada by 2010. In fact, I find the idea somewhat unbelievable. There is no question the three nations that share the North American continent have much in common, both in terms of national security and the economy. There is no doubt that agreements between three relating to those two issues would probably be a good thing.
But to suggest that three nations give up their independency to form one nation - well, that's a bit far fetched.
On your second point...to suggest the issue of illegal immigration is something that the mainstream media has ignored is simply wrong, and couldn't be farther from the truth.
First, as to the uniting of the three countries www.spp.gov spells it all out. Or check out the Council on Foreign Relations site. There is now what is called the Nafta Super Highway that's part of the plan. http://www.thenewamerican.com/artman/publish/article_4088.shtml
http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=15497
There is a Mexican Customs office being built in Kansas City, Missouri.
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=50918
There is plenty of information out there if one bothers to look, starting with our own government. Right now there are a few from Congress demanding that Bush address this plan. This is not post WWII America, which the majority of Americans are under the assumption of.
Secondly, yes, mainstream media did report on the immigration rallies, but, only the side of the illegal aliens. Nowhere did mainstream media mention the intent of La Raza. Apparently you did not watch the video either. Watch the video at
http://www.immigrationwatchdog.com/?p=811
Then tell me the Bulletin covered it. There is no mention in the Bulletin of La Raza nor Atzlan.
Another issue not covered was the e-voting machines. Our government did not even review the sale even though they are critical to our national security. Our voting is major to our freedom and soverneighty and the results are easily manipulated. Carolyn Mahoney, NY, has demanded an investigation. L There is no paper trail.Smartmatic is not an American company. It is a company composed of Venezulan businessmen. You know who Chavez is, right? Smartmatic, in control of our e-voting machines. Does that sound rational to you? Chavez exchanged declarations of solidarity with the authoritarian leader of Belarus, who shares his anti-U.S. views. Chavez has created a socialist trade bloc with Cuba and Bolivia, signed a series of deals with Iran, and supported North Korea's right to test-fire missiles. Also, Russia has agreed to supply Chavez with 30 fighter jets and 30 helicopters. Chavez says Bush's government stands for a "false democracy" of elites, while Venezuela now has a true "participatory democracy." He is as much a friend to the U.S. as China.
Sure there is plenty of media coverage, but, it the whole picture is not being portrayed. The fact of the matter is that if you are not outraged then you are not informed. I left links to the SPPin previous posts. If you as a parent, citizen and human being of this country want to lose your freedoms..then do not read these articles, do not participate and under no circumstances..get involved.
Then you can say ..yes I helped to create a 3 country nation.
What I am talking about are the facts and effects of illegal aliens in our country.
25 people in America are killed each day by illegal aliens.
8% of those employed in the U.S are illegal aliens.
84 California Hospitals have closed their ERs between 1994 and 2003 because the illegals got free health care. This means legal Americans are now denied ER care.
Illegal immigration costs CA taxpayers $10.5 Billion each year.
Only 6% of day laborers enter the country legally
No. of companies fined for hiring illegal aliens:
2001 - 141 companies
2002 - 73 companies
2003 - 15 companies
As of May 2004 - 1 company
No. of employer investigations in U.S.:
1992 - 7,053
2002 - 2,061
No. of arrests on job sites in U.S.:
1992 - 8,027
2002 - 451
No. of U.S. employers fined
1992 - 1,063
2002 - 13
Illegal alien costs to federal budget:
Medicaid - $2.5 B
Uninsured treatment - $2.2 B
Food assistance - $1.9 B
Federal Prison - $1.6 B
Aid to schools - $1.4 B
Other - $800 M
Total - $10.4 B
33% of America's prison population are non-citizens
36-42% of illegal aliens are on welfare
In Los Angeles:
95% of outstanding murder warrants are for illegal aliens
66% of outstanding fugitive felony warrants are for illegal alines
In 1999, Pennsylvania's cost to incarcerate illegal aliens was $13.3 million
Nationwide, the cost to incarcerate illegal aliens is approx. $2 Billion annually
Nationwide, approx. 400,000 illegal aliens who have committed further crimes, and have been given a deportation order are "whereabouts unknown"
Your reply that there is 'nothing anyone is gonna do' saddens me. This is not so. It is just that Congress has realized that Americans are finally realizing what they have done to this country over the las 35 years, and without the illegal alien vote, they will be out of office. In 1954, Pres. Eisenhower deported 1,300,000 illegal aliens in 4 months with 700 BP agents. It just takes political will, absent in our reps, to stand by the majority of Americans instead of pandering to Corporate America.
I have no problem with anyone coming to this country to be a citizen, if they are going to enhance this country. The problem is not that there are jobs Americans won't do, I do one of them, but, that corporations are not willing to pay a living wage. This puts downward pressure on American wages. In the last 30 years the average median male has a decrease of 3% in their wages. By the year 2025 the hispanics will have enough voting power to change our Constitution. By the year 2050 they will 60% of the population. Our American culture will no longer exist. The illegals have caused our school systems to be dumbed down. In California, hispanic students are suing because they can't complete the high school exit test, this test has been dumbed down to the eighth grade level. We do not have the resources nor any organization in place that can process all the illegals. One report listed only 33% of hispanics polled has any intention of becoming American. If you are not aware of La Raza Reconquista then I suggest you do some research.
The true agenda of The Race Industry
Harvard Professor Samuel P. Huntington, Chairman of the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies warned in his April 2004 article, "The Hispanic Challenge":
"Demographically, socially, and culturally, the reconquista (re-conquest) of the Southwest United States by Mexican immigrants is well underway... No other immigrant group in U.S. history has asserted or could assert a historical claim to U.S. territory. Mexicans and Mexican Americans can and do make that claim."
In December 2004, the Mexican government published a guide advising illegal Mexican nationals on how to safely cross the U.S. border.
In 2001, Ernesto Ruffo Appel, Mexico’s Commissioner for Northern Border Affairs, reportedly told potential illegal Mexican migrants:
"If the border patrol agent finds you, try again."
Other Mexican government officials have said:
"I have proudly affirmed that the Mexican nation extends beyond the territory enclosed by its borders and that Mexican migrants are an important - a very important - part of it."
--1997, Ernest Zedillo, former President of Mexico, in Chicago.
"We are practicing La Reconquista in California."
--1998, Jose Pescador Osuna, then-Consul General of Mexico, in California.
"We are Mexicans that live in our territories and we are Mexicans that live in other territories. In reality, we are 120 million people that live together and are working together to construct a nation."
--2004, Vicente Fox, President of Mexico, in Chicago.
Watch this video and see if you still feel the same way. I have found this to be the most eye opening info that has had the greatest impact on opinions. It is from the rallies in May.
I look forward to your comments.

Lies that the illegal alien lobby perpetuates:
Lie #1: Illegal aliens take jobs Americans won't do.
Truth: Americans are willing to do most jobs at a fair wage, but they won't do those jobs at "slave wages" or minimum wage. Thus, American workers are constantly replaced by illegal aliens willing to work for half or a third of what American workers once received. These jobs that once afforded a middle class life style now only offer illegal alien workers poverty level wages, resulting in the shrinkage of the "American Middle Class" and the enormous growth of an ever-increasing "underclass" dependent on government entitlements.
(Additionally they are taking the jobs that used to be done by high school/college students, and are trying to support a family on poverty wages. The American taxpayer gets to pick up the tab for their subsidized living. Something that I get to contribute to with my taxes, but, am unable to take advantage of.)
Lie #2: Illegal aliens contribute more to the economy and tax base than they take.
Truth: A large portion of illegal aliens work for cash "under the table" paying no taxes. The great majority of illegals make $6-$8 per hour, ($12,480 - $16,640 per year). At such income levels, not only is there no tax due, but they also qualify for the "earned income tax credit". In California, public education alone costs over $7,500 per pupil. Multiply that times 2-4 children, add the costs of free school breakfast and lunch, free medical care, food stamps, housing subsidies, and other entitlement "give-aways". Harvard Professor George Borjas estimates illegal immigration costs the U.S. 70 billion dollars per year and Californians $1,300 per household annually in additional taxes. The Center for Immigration Studies estimate that the average Mexican illegal alien will use $55,200 more in public services during his lifetime than he pays in taxes.
Lie #3: Without illegal alien farm labor, a head of lettuce would cost $3.00.
Truth: It already costs $3.00. You just make a $1.00 down payment at the grocery store. The government finances the other two dollars until tax time, when the additional $2.00 balance is extracted from your wallet in the form of higher taxes. The Agriculture industry gets cheap labor and higher profits, while shifting all the social costs of illegal immigrant labor to the American tax payer.
Lie #4: Most illegal aliens come here only to seek work and are law-abiding "citizens".
Truth: In Los Angeles, as of January, 2004, 95 percent of all outstanding warrants for homicide (which total 1,200 to 1,500) target illegal aliens. Up to two-thirds of all fugitive felony warrants (17,000) are for illegal aliens. A confidential California Department of Justice study reported in 1995 that 60 percent of the 20,000-strong 18th Street Gang in southern California is illegal; police officers say the proportion is actually much greater. The bloody gang collaborates with the Mexican Mafia, the dominant force in California prisons, on complex drug-distribution schemes, extortion, and drive-by assassinations, and commits an assault or robbery every day in L.A. County. The gang has grown dramatically over the last two decades by recruiting recently arrived youngsters, most of them illegal, from Central America and Mexico. (Source: The Illegal-Alien Crime Wave, by Heather MacDonald, City Journal, Winter 2004)
Facts are facts. The illegals are costing more money than they are dishing out. 20 million dollars that were made in America is sent to Mexico each year. What you referred to as anti-immigration sites should more aptly referred to as pro-America sites. I belong to several pro-America groups. Not on of these pro-America groups tolerates racism. What the pro-America groups are trying to do is save the American culture. With falling birth rates in American families and adding 12-30 million, mostly Mexicans, will overwhelm the American culture and it will cease to exist. Just that fact alone is why I am active in trying to save America. Like the majority of those that belong to these groups, I am not a racist. Those that come here legally and are proud to swear allegiance to our flag and country are welcomed with opened arms. As I proved in previous quotes the Mexican government is encouraging massive illegal immigration here with the intent of taking back into Mexicos hands, almost 1/3 of of the U.S. In the Aztlan video, if you watched it, it showed the intended takeover area. Under the Constitution our government is obligated to protect each and every state from foreign invasion. Instead Bush and this administration are working with Mexican President Fox to ensure the end of our American culture. We are not a nation of immigrants, not yet anyway, we are a nation of Americans. Recently someone from the Federal Reserve Board said that if America isn't already bankrupt that we will be there soon. We cannot afford to be so generous when there is so little to give. Americans already feel the impact of immigration, we will be overwhelmed. The current immigration system is already broken so they probably wouldn't even try to process the millions. When you come here as a legal immigrant you have to be checked out medically. We know that these millions will not be checked medically and already there are diseases that have not been seen again in the U.S until recently, as a result of those coming from Mexico. Groups like the Minuteman Civil Defense Corp, the Minuteman Project, NumbersUSA, FAIR, and The American Heritage Foundation are all about being American and what it means to be American. We are trying to keep the America that we grew up in for future generations. We are trying to ensure that America remain a sovereign and democratic nation. Plain and simple, we are Americans doing the job that our government refuses to do. If the politicians had any will in this country millions would never have crossed the border to begin with. Am I for deportation in order to save America? Yes. It has been done before. Do I think we will win the war to save America? No. As agreed to in the SPP: Mexico, Canada, and the United States will be united in the year 2010. Many of the signing statements that the ABA is questioning Constitutionality on have to do with the SPP. As Reagan said "A nation without borders in not a nation." I have to at least try and save my country, it is my responsibility as an American, even if somedays it all seems so futile. I will be attending a rally in about a week. Previous rallies have resulted in frozen cans of soda and people being hit on the head with signs, by the pro-illegal groups. And it is always the pro-illegal that gets arrested. Their intent is to deny freedom of speech to those that are there legally. It seems only the illegals should be allowed that right. I can't get a reply from the State Police in regards to them protecting my freedom of speech or my body. Am I afraid? Actually I am, but, as I said, it is my responsibility. I have been enjoying this exchange with you, Jonnybravo. Have a great day!
"Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it." Lincoln's Cooper Institute Address, February 27, 1860.
I've avoided jumping back on this one because there really isn't anything I'm going to say to change anyone's mind. Illegal immigration is a problem that needs to be addressed, but the solution will never be found at either extreme of the argument. The answer is somewhere in the middle - and I wish I knew what it was, but I'm not that smart.
I'm not comparing this to anything - but this is one of those issues that falls under the same category as abortion and capital punishment. People feel very strongly about those issues for their own personal reasons - and no one is going to convince them otherwise.
Like I said, I'm not a fan of extremes and therefore I don't think this will be settled by taking hard line points of view. What we need is to look at a compromise that achieves the common goal of securing our borders and making this country safer - and a compassionate answer to dealing with those who have come here because of who we are - and why they want to be part of that.
As George Washington said "For those the fight now belongs to all Americans who intend to bequeath to their children and grandchildren a free and lawful nation dedicated to fostering the deepest and best impulses of the human spirit."
By the year 2050, the Hispanics will be a solid 60% of the population. They are not assimilating into Americans, but, intend to change America so drastically that we, the majority now, will become the minority. (You still did not respond to the lack of coverage on the Aztlan video clip). The illegal aliens are not enhancing America and have every intention of taking America away from Americans. May 1st, the day the Mexicans decided to boycott American products showed us just how the illegals contribute. National retailers reported only .0042% lower sales for the day. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff, Los Angeles had: 82% reduction in auto theft, 28% reduction in murders/ violent crimes/ rapes, 73% reduction in vandalism, 54% reduction in drug related offenses (not including the area surrounding the march), 31% reduction in domestic violence cases, 64% reduction in misdemeanor cases (shop lifting, etc). With the U.S. government on the verge of bankruptcy, something not reported in the Bulletin, London's Daily Telegraph reported the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank's Professor Laurence Kotlikoff, the United States is on the path to bankruptcy - if it is not already there. We cannot afford the demands these poverty level people will demand from our system. The costs far outweigh the benefits that are contributed by the illegals. According to an article by Newsmax: The U.S. immigration system is so broken that it can't be fixed, a former top security official at the Department of Homeland Security's Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) told NewsMax. "Internal corruption at CIS is so pervasive that hostile foreign governments have penetrated the agency" said Michael J. Maxwell.
Also, Maxwell said "Terrorists and organized crime are gaming the immigration system with impunity"
A report from the DHS Office of Inspector General revealed that 45,008 aliens from countries on the U.S. list of state-sponsors of terror (SST) or from countries that protected terrorist organizations and their members were released into the general public between 2001 and 2005. Even worse, the report states: "it is not known exactly how many of these . . . aliens were ultimately issued final orders of removal and actually removed, since such data is not tracked" by the Detention and Removal Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). To reward those that come here illegaly, have broken our laws, and will place a burden on future generations will not be able to pay for. The abuse that we the taxpayers have had to pay for in Social Security fraud is unacceptable. (Another issue not covered by the Bulletin) From a 2006 GOA report "Several employers used one Social Security number for more than 100 different employees, one employer used a single Social Security number for 2,580 different wage reports, 8.9 million wage reports had all zeros for the Social
Security number, 43 different employers used the same Social Security number for more than one employee--for 16 years in a row. Approximately 53.4 percent of the Social Security numbers for IFCO systems were invalid--half--and Social Security had notified the company more than 13 times regarding these discrepancies before it
finally acted. Twenty years ago Congress sold Americans a bill of goods. They said if you will accept the amnesty, then we will have workable worksite verifications and sanctions against employers who cheat. Yet today, here we are wrestling with the problem, not of 3 million undocumented workers but 12 million. Obviously, the amnesty without worksite verification and employer sanctions is merely a magnet for future illegal immigration. The consequences for our society and for our national security and for our economy will be too great. What is ultimately at stake is American soverneignty and American culture. I urge you to inform yourself about Aztlan. Again, I would like your opinion on this clip and a reason as to why the Bulletin would not be covering this subject.

To hell with being PC, stand up for our country.
All one has to do is type in a few words in order to be educated about Aztlan. Here are a few excerpts from one such article found at:
http://www.boundless.org/2002_2003/features/a0000660.html
by David Orland
At colleges and universities across the country, ...MEChA — is calling for the surrender of wide swaths of American territory to Mexico. MEChA has spent the last three decades indoctrinating Latino students on American campuses in the ideology of reconquista (reconquest). According to MEChA propaganda, the Southwestern United States — including California, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, as well as parts of Nevada, Utah, and Colorado — sits on the territory of the ancient (and mythical) “Nation of Aztlan.” MEChA charges that Aztlan was unjustly seized by the United States following the Mexican-American War. Now MEChA wants this territory given back to its alleged rightful owners: the people and government of Mexico.
There are today more than 300 MEChA unions in existence. While the group is concentrated in the Southwest and along the West Coast, it can also be found farther East: MIT, Yale, Cornell, George Washington University, and Brown, among other East Coast universities.
By supporting continued high levels of Mexican immigration to the United States, MEChA hopes to achieve by sheer weight of numbers ...the re-partition of the American Southwest.
MEChA is hardly alone in promoting these policies. The National Council of La Raza and the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF)...also support them (as does Mexican President Vicente Fox).
As one of MEChA’s founding documents, El Plan Espiritual de Aztlan (The Spiritual Plan of Atzlan) puts it: “In the spirit of a new people that is conscious not only of its proud historical heritage but also of the brutal ‘gringo’ invasion of our territories, we, the Chicano inhabitants and civilizers of the northern land of Aztlan from whence came our forefathers, reclaiming the land of their birth and consecrating the determination of our people of the sun, declare that the call of our blood is our power, our responsibility, and our inevitable destiny.”
Just beneath the surface of the Marxist-inspired “union of free pueblos” imagined by MEChA visionaries runs a rich vein of race hatred and conspiratorial anti-Semitism. As an editorial addressed to “capitalist whites” in the University of California Irvine’s La Voz Mestiza (The Mestiza Voice) concludes, “You’ve spilled enough of our blood, now it’s your turn to bleed you [expletive] sub-human beasts.” Or, as one of MEChA’s many charming slogans has it, “por la Raza todo; fuera la Raza nada”: for those of our race, everything; for those outside of it, nothing. In calling for the re-partition of the American Southwest, MEChA is not just seeking the overthrow of the American government but the overthrow of its people as well. MEChA advocates the overthrow of the U.S. government, the seizure of large swaths of U.S. territory, and the expulsion (or worse) of those presently living there. California politicians who have never renounced their membership in the organization include Lieutenant Governor and current ex-officio UC Regent Cruz Bustamente, former State Assembly Speaker and Los Angeles mayoral candidate Antonio Villaraigosa, State Assemblyman Gil Cadillo and State Sen. Joe Baca.
In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.

When the Bulletin does not report on such important matters as Bush and his increased executive power through the use of signnig statements, not only are you doing a disservice to your readers, but you also help to weaken our Constitution. Again, all the information is out there, but, it is being ignored by the Bulletin.
It is imperative to our democracy that all three branches have equal power.

Media continue to ignore Boston Globe reporter's exposés on Bush's "signing statements"
Summary: Major media outlets have largely ignored reports by The Boston Globe's Charles Savage documenting President Bush's apparent willingness to disregard congressional authority through the use of "signing statements" asserting "that he has the power to set aside any statute passed by Congress when it conflicts with his interpretation of the Constitution." The media have also ignored the response by Democrats to Savage's reports.

Bush challenges hundreds of laws
President cites powers of his office
by Charlie Savage,
May 13, 2006
Boston Globe
Excerps:
WASHINGTON -- President Bush has quietly claimed the authority to disobey more than 750 laws enacted since he took office, asserting that he has the power to set aside any statute passed by Congress when it conflicts with his interpretation of the Constitution.
Legal scholars say the scope and aggression of Bush's assertions that he can bypass laws represent a concerted effort to expand his power at the expense of Congress, upsetting the balance between the branches of government. The Constitution is clear in assigning to Congress the power to write the laws and to the president a duty ''to take care that the laws be faithfully executed." Bush, however, has repeatedly declared that he does not need to ''execute" a law he believes is unconstitutional.
Many legal scholars say they believe that Bush's theory about his own powers goes too far and that he is seizing for himself some of the law-making role of Congress and the Constitution-interpreting role of the courts.
Phillip Cooper, a Portland State University law professor...said Bush and his legal team have spent the past five years quietly working to concentrate ever more governmental power into the White House.
''There is no question that this administration has been involved in a very carefully thought-out, systematic process of expanding presidential power at the expense of the other branches of government," Cooper said. ''This is really big, very expansive, and very significant."
Bush ...has signed every bill that reached his desk, often inviting the legislation's sponsors to signing ceremonies at which he lavishes praise upon their work. Then, after the media and the lawmakers have left the White House, Bush quietly files ''signing statements".
In his signing statements, Bush has repeatedly asserted that the Constitution gives him the right to ignore numerous sections of the bills -- sometimes including provisions that were the subject of negotiations with Congress in order to get lawmakers to pass the bill. He has appended such statements to more than one of every 10 bills he has signed.
Nonetheless, Bush has said in his signing statements that the Constitution lets him control any executive official, no matter what a statute passed by Congress might say.
Golove said that to the extent Bush is interpreting the Constitution in defiance of the Supreme Court's precedents, he threatens to ''overturn the existing structures of constitutional law."
A president who ignores the court, backed by a Congress that is unwilling to challenge him, Golove said, can make the Constitution simply ''disappear."
Many of the laws Bush has challenged involve national security, where it is almost impossible to verify what the government is doing.
Senator Patrick J. Leahy of Vermont, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, accused Bush of trying to ''cherry-pick the laws he decides he wants to follow."
And Representatives Jane Harman of California and John Conyers Jr. of Michigan -- the ranking Democrats on the House Intelligence and Judiciary committees, respectively -- sent a letter to Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales demanding that Bush rescind his claim and abide by the law.
The courts have little chance of reviewing Bush's assertions, especially in the secret realm of national security matters.
''There can't be judicial review if nobody knows about it," said Neil Kinkopf, a Georgia State law professor.
Without court involvement, only Congress can check a president who goes too far. But Bush's fellow Republicans control both chambers, and they have shown limited interest in launching the kind of oversight that could damage their party.
''The president is daring Congress to act against his positions, and they're not taking action because they don't want to appear to be too critical of the president, given that their own fortunes are tied to his because they are all Republicans," said Jack Beermann, a Boston University law professor. ''Oversight gets much reduced in a situation where the president and Congress are controlled by the same party."
Said Golove, the New York University law professor: ''Bush has essentially said that 'We're the executive branch and we're going to carry this law out as we please, and if Congress wants to impeach us, go ahead and try it.' "
Bruce Fein, a deputy attorney general in the Reagan administration, said the American system of government relies upon the leaders of each branch ''to exercise some self-restraint." But Bush has declared himself the sole judge of his own powers, he said, and then ruled for himself every time.
''This is an attempt by the president to have the final word on his own constitutional powers, which eliminates the checks and balances that keep the country a democracy," Fein said. ''There is no way for an independent judiciary to check his assertions of power, and Congress isn't doing it, either. So this is moving us toward an unlimited executive power."

Minuteman...just a thought, but if you're respones were a little shorter, you might be able to make your point a little clearer.
You are obviously are passionate about this issue, but you have also taken a position that unless the news is reported "to your staisfaction" than the issue is being covered. And on that point I would disagree with you.
Again, to suggest that the media is not covering these stories is not true. What is true, is that the media is convering it to your satisfaction.
You still will not answer as to the Bulletins lack of coverage regarding so many issues. No mention of La Raza, Aztlan, MECHa, MS-13, daily border, Social Security fraud perpetrated by the illegals and how those that have had their numbers used get no recourse from our government, how the UAE was supposed to divest itself of control of our ports and how not one of these ports have been sold, the war on the middle class by this administation, the FEMA concentration camps already built in US in case of emergencies to be used to house those objecting to martial law, signing statements by Bush, the ABA reports on Bush and his unconstitutional signing statements, the dangers of radical Islamic Jihadists, the funding and building of border fences by the American people which should be being done by our government and why the borders are not being secured, the costs to taxpayers and our culture of amnesty, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Security and Prosperity Partnership, Mexican Customs Office in Kansas City paid for by the American taxpayers, NAFTA Plus, how the US is heading towards bankruptcy, or the many groups calling for impeachment of Bush, the drunken illegal aliens driving automobiles into innocent citizens, murders, rapes, robberies, child molestations, home invasions, killing of our police officers by illegals, illegals murdering our citizenry and then fleeing back to Mexico, American citizens faced with trespassing illegal aliens are being sued by the Mexican government, how towns throughout the US have enacted ordinances punishing employers and fining landlords who employ or rent to illegal immigrants, illegals using fake SS#'s, entering our country without permission, illegals sueing because LEGAL immigrants are brought in to work here legally.
The point is that if you are not outraged then you are not imformed. Facts are facts, and the Bulletin is either ignorant of the facts, choosing to ignore the facts, or is afraid to publish the facts. Prove to me that the Bulletin has covered 1/10th of what I have written and I will gladly eat my words and offer you an apolgy. An objective reporter is one who in search of the truth reports what the truth really is. The reason people have turned to blogs over mainstream media is that you have failed to cover issue after issue. Blogs are where you will find issues that matter to Americans, not in the fluff printed by the Bulletin. Issues that matter are easily verifed with internet research. While it is not PC to stand up for America, my fight for America does not make me a racist. Again I repeat, if you are not outraged then you are not informed.
In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.
Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968)
For as Benjamin Franklin so wisely stated, "A nation of well informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the region of ignorance that tyranny begins.”
"Remember now what you are about to fight for. The fight now belongs to all Americans who intend to bequeath to their children and grandchildren a free and lawful nation dedicated to fostering the deepest and best impulses of the human spirit." George Washington.
